Ode to Jack
Thank you Jack for this cottage you left. With foxgloves Lavender, lupins a mass in the garden. Trailing lobelia and ivy mingle amongst rambling roses.Sparrows sing while swallows swoop by. Clouds from the Edge billow and fill…….

Thank you for your kind hospitality
A short, but very restful break away from it all.

Our second visit and as wonderful as ever. The cottage was so cosy and welcoming, and we had a very special time away from the stresses and
strains of the world. We will be back.

Article from Period Living Issue 188 January 2006

Features Assistant Charlotte Ewing stayed in a 16th-century farmhouse in Derbyshire.

Commanding an idyllic position on the banks of the River Derwent and facing the impressive Froggatt Bridge, Bridgefoot Cottage is a converted farmhouse of immense charm and beauty. With its open gritstone fireplaces and oak beams, it is bursting with period features, and owner Marsha has decorated it beautifully and comfortably while respecting its traditional character. Particularly charming touches are a rumbling Aga, a free-standing Victorian bath and a wrought-iron four-poster bed. The garden too is delightful, full of mature shrubs and flowers, and rolls down to the river.

Once a thriving centre in the heart of lead-mining country, the area abounds with places of historical interest. Many, including breathtaking Chatsworth House, are within walking distance of Froggatt. Crossing the dramatic countryside and rolling parkland, you almost expect to bump into a character from Pride and Prejudice, taking a soul-searching walk in the elements... A mile upstream is Grindleford, a small town straddling the valley, where you can explore the ruins of 15th-century Padley Hall or tour the National Trust Parkland at Longshaw Estate.

The hills to the west lead in one direction to the hilltop village of Eyam, famous for having voluntarily gone into quarantine during the bubonic plague, to prevent the infection spreading. To the east are the limestone cliffs or 'Edges'. One is known as Lover's Leap after a heartbroken girl who tried to throw herself from the cliffs…She was saved by her voluminous skirts, which acted like a parachute!

But this is just what's on your doorstep. Jump in the car and there is the rest of the beautiful Peak District to explore. We found that one week was not enough…

We have had a dream week. A little gem of a cottage . Wonderful view first thing in the morning from the bedroom. We have explored a lot of the area- pretty Dovedale, all the Derwent reservoirs, Bakewell, pretty picturesque Tissington, Castleton. The walking has been plenty of which Froggatt Edge is stunning.
